I am Mrs. Mary Hizon-Barry. For the last 3 years, I have had the honor to serve as the Coordinator of the Virtual Learning Academy. This is my 7th year at Sage Oak, and prior to my current position as Coordinator, I taught 7th & 8th grade ELA & Social Studies when VLA was just starting, and was an EA for 3 years before that. Our theme of service this month really is the driving force for why I am in education. After college, I served as a volunteer teacher for a middle school on the southside of Chicago for four years. There I saw first hand how transformative education can be for students, families, and communities. I actually met my husband while I was in Chicago, and now we have our daughter Evelyn (6 years old), our son Leo (3 years old), and our puppy Oliver. Looking forward to seeing new and familiar faces at our upcoming socials and field trips. Wishing your family a great school year! Looking forward to seeing many of you tomorrow at the beach! š Sincerely, Mrs. Lana Beshara Virtual Learning Academy Principal |
