Opportunity for Students Interested in Medicine/Global Health: Johns Hopkins University has invited Sage Oak high school students to apply to attend their Global Health Leaders Conference! Students from around the world have the chance to learn about issues in global health, public health, and medicine through world-class lectures from leaders in these fields, develop connections with like-minded exceptional students, and share their own work and ideas on global health-related topics at the international scale. The conference is virtual with events through the Summer of 2024. Applying is free, but students who are selected to attend will pay a $99 registration fee. Applications are due by March 1, 2024. There is no better way to get a feel for a college then to get feet on the ground touring the campus! Spring Community College Classes: If you’re interested in taking any of our partner classes at Crafton Hills College this spring or classes at another community college, enrollment is open for most colleges! Be sure to let your EA know which classes you are interested in so they can submit an approval form! Class of 2024 Updates Grad Webinar Recording: If you missed our grad webinar last Wednesday, you can check out the Recording and Slides for all the details about the ceremony venue, expectations, cap & gown ordering, graduate to-dos and more. – Grad Survey: At your LP3 meetings, EAs will review our Grad Survey will all members of the Class of 2024. This will ask for information about if will be attending the ceremony, how you want your name announced, where you want your diploma mailed and review potential graduate awards. Cap & Gown Ordering: Class of 2024 graduates can order their cap & gown from Jostens here or check out graduation bundles here. Sage Oak gowns are dark grey (despite the light grey picture online) and will be shipped directly to you. Please note that cap & gown cannot be ordered with instructional funds. College Tours – FRIDAY University of Redlands Tour: Friday, November 17th at 1pm. Come join us as we tour the U of Redlands, ranked one of the top 7 schools in the West by US News & World Report and designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution by the US Department of Education! FREE. Students can still sign up here. Field Trips LAST WEEK! Forensic Science Field Trip: Attention all budding scientists and curious minds! Are you ready to delve into the fascinating world of forensic science? Join us for a field trip to the Glendale Forensic Lab on Thursday, November 30, 2023 from 8am to 10am to learn about what a forensic toxicologist does and get hands-on experience with forensic science tools and techniques! Science extra credit available! Student sign up HERE. Sign ups close Monday, November 27th. THURSDAY Botanical Illustration with Jess: Thursday, November 16th 11am-1pm. Come join HS art teacher Jess Perri at the CSU Fullerton Arboretum for a deep dive – and draw! – into the wonderful world of plants. Open to all students. Student sign up here! HS Hangouts FRIDAY November HS Hangout – Round 1: November 17th 12-3pm. Whether you bowl for the high score or the sweet shoes, come join your fellow Sage Oakers for an afternoon of strikes, gutterballs and a whole lotta fun! There will also be billiards, karaoke and arcade games! Round 1 Bowling & Amusement in Lakewood Center Mall. Price varies by activity. Students sign up here.
