1st Semester Reminders: Only 3 more weeks of first semester! All assignments, projects, final exams and honors assignments are due no later than Friday, January 26th! Please continue to communicate with your EA about any changes, updates or community college classes you are interested in for 2nd semester! Second semester will start Monday, January 29th. Science Olympiad: Sage Oak is once again building a team to compete at the 2023-2024 SoCal Regional Science Olympiad! Led by Sage Oak teachers Irene Esqueda and Danny Levin, this team of high school students will be assembled in January and meet twice a week on Zoom to prepare for the competition in March. Last year’s Sage Oak teams won 14 awards and medals, earning 2nd place at the regional competition! Founded in 1984, Science Olympiad is one of the premier science competitions in the nation! At the tournament, students work together in teams to compete in 23 events, ranging from anatomy and biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, geology, mechanical and structural engineering, and technology. You can see this year’s Division C (9-12th grade) categories here.Please complete the HS Science Olympiad 2023-24 Interest Form this week if you are interested in learning more about this exciting opportunity and we will reach out with more details! No experience necessary but a love of science welcomed! Community College Transcripts: Just finished a 1st semester community college course? Be sure to share your final grade with your EA with an unofficial transcript or screenshot from the college portal. 23-24 HS Yearbook: There is still time to order a 23-24 Sage Oak High School Yearbook! When you order, you’ll be able to personalize and design 2 pages of your own! Softcover – $44 / Hardcover – $51 (before taxes). Order here. Weekly Study Hall: Study Hall returns this week! Thursday, 2-3:30pm. Ask your EA for an invite! Class of 2024 Updates Grad Night 2024: Tickets for Disney’s Grad Night Party are now available! Enjoy a full day at Disneyland and then an exclusive nighttime celebration for Class of 2024 at Disney’s CA Adventure filled with thrilling attractions, spectacular shows and magical surprises! May 22 11AM to May 23 2AM. $218/ticket. Sales close March 15th! (No IFs) Graduate & Baby Photos: Late this month, we’ll be requesting both graduate headshots as well as baby photos for our graduation slideshow! Start finding those adorable pictures! Cap & Gown Ordering: Class of 2024 graduates attending our in-person ceremony should be ordering their cap & gown from Jostens here or graduation bundles here. Sage Oak gowns are dark grey (despite the light grey picture online) and will be shipped directly to you. Please note that cap & gown cannot be ordered with instructional funds. Order yours today! Just Decided to Apply to College?! There’s still time! Check out this 10-minute video guide from The College Essay Guide to walk you through how to be efficient about picking college and getting your applications in in two weeks. On the Common App, once you create an account, you can use the search feature to find schools that are still accepting applications. And here are the CSUs still accepting applications for Fall 2024! CSU Dominguez Hills: January 15 CSU Channel islands: January 31 CSU Humboldt: January 31 CSU Northridge: January 31 CSU San Bernardino: January 31 CSU East Bay: February 15 CSU San Francisco: March 30 UC Info for Spanish Speakers: UC launched Lograr Universidad de California, a comprehensive new Spanish-language website to help Spanish-speaking students and their families navigate the process of attaining a UC. The website provides students with a high-level roadmap, helping them prepare for a competitive application and sharing important information on admission rates and financial aid. Law Day Program for High School Students: Student registration is now open for Orange County’s Constitutional Rights Foundation Law Day program, an opportunity for students interested in the law to discuss and learn about topical legal issues, as well as hear from law students and practitioners about what it is like to study and work in the field. The event is scheduled to take place Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Chapman University’s Dale E. Fowler School of Law from 9:00-12:30 pm. The event is FREE and lunch will be provided to all attendees. Register here! Calling All Student Athletes: Interested in playing sports in college?
