I Can Resolutions
January is the perfect time to re-focus on our I CAN theme by setting fresh goals. Below are some ideas to use as a jumping-off point to help you begin the year strong! We encourage you to take advantage of the fresh start and work with your teachers to help your children meet their goals.

Here are some ideas that you can implement this month:

Create 2021 New Year Resolutions or a This Year I Can goal list
Play this Yes I Can Inspirational Video and discuss what “I Can” mentality means to you
Read I Can Do Hard Things or listen to the book and choose a mindful affirmation to practice

Second Annual Living History Event
Did you hear what’s new with this year’s living history event? First, we are offering additional student materials. Materials now include digital options geared towards older students. Second, students now have the option to complete a digital project instead of a physical board.

Finally, students can sign up to present their project live in a small group via Zoom (this is optional). This is a great project to do for social studies for the next learning period!

Math Matters January
This month we are discussing how to engage our students in mathematics. We have the unique opportunity to tailor our math lessons to the learning styles and needs of our learners.

Student Counseling Groups: Stress & Anxiety
The Counseling Department has a few more spots open for our Stress & Anxiety groups! Groups start Thursday, February 4th, and will run for six weeks. Please utilize this interest form if your student is interested in participating.

Sign-ups will close on Wednesday, January 20th. If you have any questions or would like to schedule a time to speak to a school counselor 1-on-1, please complete the Counselor Request Form linked below or contact our School Counselor at awhalen@sageoak.education.

Holes Book Club
Students in 4th-6th grade are invited to participate in a Book Club led by Sage Oak teacher Sheri Copeland. Hosted Mondays in February. Multiple times available.

Directing Change Program and Film Contest
The Directing Change Program and Film Contest is part of Each Mind Matters: California’s Mental Health Movement and statewide efforts to prevent suicide, reduce stigma and discrimination related to mental illness, and to promote the mental health and wellness of students. To find out more information about this contest, please visit their website or watch our video which provides a contest overview. This contest is open to all middle and high school students.
